Description
Up for your consideration isA Frederic Carder for Steuben Torchiere. Clear amber glass panel, shape number 8418, circa 1926. Panel depicts a nude female figure gathering grapes. Panel is not signed, but is illustrated in Dimitroff's book "Ferderick Carder and Steuben Glass". Another example is seen in Gardner's book "The Glass of Frederick Carder". Patinated metal (likely wrought iron) lamp torchiere base is raised on scrolled feet leading into a three-iron bar support which supports the lighting element. A decorative element in the form of a grape bunch with scrolls on either side is just beneath the amber panel Torchiere base:approximate 69" t. x 13" w. Glass panel: 9" x 9". These were the best lamps of this style made at this time, with the highest quality materials. Such lamps are rarely seen.
Condition
Glass panel sustains three chips on the back and one on front of the panel as shown in photos. There is also a small chip on the right corner of the panel. No chips show when the lamp shade is in place and viewed directly. The base shows wear to the original golden patina on the heavy wrought iron base. Part shows original cord it could be replaced.Part of the cord has been replaced, please look photos. The lamp is in very good working condition.
